Blythe, Catherine Weir
The funeral was held on 20th February for the late Catherine Weir Blythe of Lostock Gralam who died on 12th February 2007 aged 84 years. Catherine was born in Glenalmond Mid-Calder Scotland to George and Margaret Bennett. She was their second child having an older brother and two younger sisters. She grew up in Mid Calder where she attended school. In 1941 Catherine joined the Women's Royal Air Force based at Liverpool where she deployed barrage balloons she was also an instrument fitter on aircraft. After meeting Harry Blythe they were married on 2nd April 1945 at The Manse Mid Calder. They lived in Winnington Hartford Sandbach and Delamere before moving to Lostock Gralam where they remained for 53 years. Their only daughter Margaret was born in 1952. Catherine was a Sunday School teacher at Lostock Church for 12 years. Sadly Catherine was widowed in 2005. Catherine enjoyed knitting and crocheting she liked watching horse jumping also ballet and opera. She travelled to America went on cruises to the Mediterranean and enjoyed a trip to the Holy Land. She leaves her only daughter Margaret Ann. The service was held at Lostock Parish Church prior to interment in the churchyard. Rev'd Barbara Sharp conducted the service. In addition to family floral tributes donations were received for the Ileostomy Association and Cancer Research UK.
