Funeral report for the late Mary Myfanwy Astill The funeral was held on 30th December 2008 for the late Mary Myfanwy Astill née Jones, who died 16th December aged 93 years. Mary was born in Heaton Road, Stockport on 16th December 1915 to Frank Ernest Jones and Hesse Jones (née Burgess), the eldest of two children having a brother the late Peter Emrys. She was brought up in Stockport and Farnworth, attending school in Farnworth, nr Bolton. She married Roy Preston Astill on 6th June 1942 at Heaton Moor Methodist Church, Stockport, settling at first in Wallasey, before moving to St Helens, then Moulton and eventually Hartford where they remained. Sadly Mary was widowed in 1963. Mary was a teacher in Manchester before being evacuated to Ashbourne, Derbyshire during the war. She also taught domestic science in Moulton and the Grange School in Hartford. Her interests included painting, cross stitch, knitting, Guiding, gardening and being involved at St John’s Church, Hartford. Mary is survived by her Son Don Astill, grandchildren Matthew, Adam, Lucy, Gillian & Rachel and great grandchildren Daniel, Molly, Jessica & Juliet. A Service of Thanksgiving held at St John’s Church, Hartford following a private cremation was conducted by Rev Mike Smith. Family flowers and donations for St John’s Church, Hartford were received.
