Funeral Report for the late Don Hordle The funeral was held on 15th January of the late Donald Richard Hordle, who passed away suddenly whilst at Leighton Hospital on 5th January 2008, aged 85 years. Don was born in Poole, Dorset in 1922 and was married to his late wife Joan for 58 years. He was a regular soldier and parachutist, who served in Burma and was awarded the British Empire Medal for outstanding service to his country. Upon leaving the army Don and Joan moved to Barnton. Starting work with ICI he spent most of his time in the Crystal Plant. Later they moved to Castle and finally, sixteen years ago, to Winnington. His great passions were gardening and supporting Manchester City who he followed for 40 years, never missing a game until his health deteriorated in the autumn. He was a founder member of the Northwich branch of the Burma Star Association and had been chairman for many years. Don is survived by his daughter Susan, son in law Ron, grandaughter Kathryn & partner Adam and grandson Neale. The funeral service at Holy Trinity Church, conducted by Rev Rowland Crook, was followed by committal at Walton Lea Crematorium. Flowers were received and donations for Christies and the Macmillan Nurses.
