Funeral report for the late Derrick Fryer The funeral was held on 22nd January 2009 for the late Derrick Fryer who died 10th January aged 89 years. Derrick was born and brought up in Wincham to John & Florence Fryer, one of seven children having a brother and five sisters. He married Joyce Pearson on 20th August 1949 at St Helenís Church, Northwich, settling at first in Winnington before moving to Rudheath where they remained. Sadly Derrick was widowed in 1996. During World War II he served in Italy, North Africa, France & Dunkirk (1939-1946). He worked as a Mineral Borer for ICI at Holford. He was a member of Northwich and District Chrysanthemum Society and an active member of the Royal British Legion. He was a keen gardener who generously gave tomatoes, flowers, vegetables and bedding plants to others. For the last three years he had been helping a primary schoolís gardening club, giving gardening advice and donating plants and seedlings for the children to raise. Derrick is survived by his daughter Barbara, son-in-law Raffaele and granddaughter Elizabeth. The funeral service held at St Helenís Church, Northwich, conducted by Rev Barry Jobber, was followed by committal at Altrincham Crematorium. Family flowers and donations for Ward 1, Leighton Hospital and the Royal British Legion were received. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Northwich.
