Funeral report for the late Harry Burgess Northwich Guardian The funeral was held on 1st June 2009, for the late Harry Burgess, who died 24th May aged 87 years. Harry was born in Walley Road, Northwich on 24th June, 1921 to Thomas & Margaret Burgess, one of five children having two brothers and two sisters. At the age of ten, Harry and his family moved to Danefield Road where he spent the rest of his child hood. He was christened and confirmed at St Helenís Church where he was an alter boy in the choir and he also joined the lads brigade. At the age of seventeen Harry met Ada Benson who herself was sixteen years of age and they married on January 14th 1943 at St Helenís Church, Northwich. In 1943, after marrying Ada, he served in the Royal Army Ordinance Corps for approximately six years, serving in the West Africa Gold Coast as a Staff Sargeant. For the remaining period of the war, he worked at the War Office in London until he was demobbed. After returning home to Northwich, he found employment with ICI, where he worked for 45 years before retiring. Harry & Ada settled in Marston where they lived together for over 40 years, in which time they had their two children Kevin & June. When Kevin & June moved on with their own families, Harry & Ada moved to a bungalow in Vicarage Walk, where they lived for a further 30 years. Sadly Ada passed away in 1999. Up until the last three years Harry looked after himself, then due to ill health he moved to a Nursing Home in Westwood Court, Winsford. Harry is survived by his son Kevin, daughter June, daughter-in-law Sandra and son-in-law Terry, grandson Ian and great grandsons Liam, James & Joshua. The funeral service held at St Helenís Church, Northwich, conducted by Rev Malcolm Cowan, was followed by interment in Northwich Cemetery. Family flowers and donations for Leighton Hospital Ward 21B and Westwood Court Staff Amenities were received. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Northwich.
