Funeral report for the late William John Smith Northwich Guardian The funeral was held on 24th August 2009, for the late William John Smith, who died on 7th August 2009 aged 88 years. William or Bill as he became known was born in Cuddington, the oldest of four children born to William and Florence Smith. Bill was brought up in Cuddington, then his family moved and he attended St Elizabethís School in Hale, then later St Johnís, Altrincham. He married Elsie Thomas in June 1945, at St Maryís Church, Clydach, South Wales and they settled in Hale, Cheshire. Sadly Bill was widowed in 1986. Bill joined the R.A.F. and during the Second World War served in North Africa and Italy. During his 38 years in the R.A.F. he was stationed at various locations including R.A.F. Leeming at Yorkshire. He settled in Lostock Gralam for a while before moving to Lincoln. Following his R.A.F. career, he was employed for several years at C.W.S. Legal Services. Bill became Chairman of Northwich R.A.F.A. and President of the Royal British Legion, Northwich and was a Manchester United supporter. Bill leaves his five children Bill, Barbara, Janet, David and Gill, five grandchildren and a great granddaughter. The funeral service was held at Lostock Gralam Parish Church, followed by interment in the churchyard. Mr Graham Sheen conducted the service. Family flowers and donations for R.A.F.A. and Vulcan to the Sky Trust were received. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Northwich.
