Taylor, Doris

Northwich Guardian The funeral was held on 17th February 2010, for the late Doris Taylor who died 8th February aged 88 years. Doris was born in Pickmere in 1921 to Thomas and Emily Taylor the seventh child of eight children. Along with her brother Walter she went to Great Budworth School leaving there at around fourteen years old. Her first job was as a Mothers Help in Pickmere near to the Windmill Pub, but when war broke out she decided to do her bit by joining the NAFFI. She was initially based at Ringway Airport; which when on leave she would cycle all the way back to Pickmere, then after the war ended up being stationed in Germany. When she eventually returned to England she went to work at Stringfellow’s Newsagents in Northwich where she worked for approximately thirty years. It was a job she really enjoyed. After leaving Stringfellow’s she went to work at the New Cheshire Salt Works and stayed there right up to her retirement. In her spare time Doris loved to bake cakes (which she shared with her family), knitting jumpers and soft toys for her niece and nephews, taking them to Pickmere Lake Amusements and doing the daily crossword. She loved to have her niece Christine to stay at the weekends and at school holiday time. She also enjoyed weekend visits from her brother Walter and his wife Doreen and their children. She regularly met with her sister Eunice on Saturdays to do their shopping and have Saturday tea together with Eunice’s son Harold. She lived with her beloved brother Arthur nearly all her life in the house they shared in Pickmere, although towards the end of their lives they moved, initially a little reluctantly, to Wincham. She remained as independent as possible throughout her life even when she became older and more infirm. She was a genuinely generous and caring individual who had a great sense of humour. She was a wonderful sister-in-law and auntie and will be sadly missed by all who new her, especially her family who have many fond and tender memories. The funeral service and committal held at Walton Lea Crematorium were conducted by Rev Alec Brown. Family flowers and donations for Parkinson’s Disease Society were received. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Northwich.
