Parker, Ronald John

The funeral was held on 12th March 2010, for the late Ron Parker of Cuddington. Ron was born in Tooting, London on 20th April 1918, and was the eldest of 8 children. As a child, his family moved several times within the South London area and Ron finally attended Bromley Grammar School before starting work aged 15. He spent the war years in the RAF as a wireless operator/mechanic with Bomber Command. After training, he was initially assigned to Army Co-operation Command, sent to France with the British Expeditionary Force and was one of the last to leave the beaches at Dunkirk. He spent the last years of the war at the secret code-breaking establishment at Bletchley Park where he met his future wife, Kay. They married in 1949 and moved to Cheshire, both working for ICI where Ron remained until he retired in 1983. Ron was a keen gardener and golfer. He was one of the founder members of Knights Grange Golf Club, where he played until 2007 when illness finally forced him to give it up at the age of 89. He became ill in November 2009 and moved to a nursing home in Congleton on Christmas Eve. It was there he died peacefully on 3rd March 2010, aged 91 years. Ron is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Nick & Sue. The funeral service held at St Johnís Church, Sandiway, conducted by Rev Martin Cox was followed by interment at Gorstage Cemetery. Family flowers and donations for Cancer Research UK were received. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Northwich.
