Bell, Anthony Nicholas
The funeral of Anthony Nicholas Bell (Tony) who died on April 13th 2010 aged 84 years, took place at St Mary’s Church, Weaverham on 24th May. Tony was born in Weaverham on the 27th October 1925, the only child of Harry and Lillian Bell. Having been a pupil at Darwin Street School, he completed a commercial course at Verdin Technical College. He started his working life at J.W. Barrow and Sons of Lostock and later took a post at Associated Octel Company as the Accounts Assistant in the wages and finance department. In his youth Tony attended Chapel Street Methodist Church forming many life long friendships at the youth club, Sunday Night at Eight Group and the Castle Players Drama Group. It was here he met Joan his wife of 56 years. Joan and Tony moved to Winnington where they brought up their two daughters, Janet and Christina. Tony loved the great outdoors and in his early life spent much time rambling with family and friends in the Lake District and Snowdonia. His interests also extended to woodwork, photography and music, particularly classical and opera. He was a long standing member of the Northwich and District Festival Choir singing regularly at concerts and festivals in the UK as well as internationally. Tony and Joan enjoyed holidays touring the British countryside with their children and Joan’s sister and family. They later journeyed abroad with friends visiting countries renowned for their scenic beauty, often travelling to Bermuda and Switzerland to visit Christina. In more recent years Tony particularly appreciated the peace and tranquillity of Tatton Park and Woburn. He took great pleasure from the company of his much loved grandchildren and joined Janet and her family for many family events and outings. Tony will be remembered by his cheerful smile, his kindness and polite ways. A true gentleman who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Joan, his daughters Janet and Christina, son-in-laws Christopher and Giles and Grandchildren Jamie, Lauren and Joseph. The service at St Mary’s Church, Weaverham was followed by committal at Walton Lea Crematorium. The Rev, Andrew Brown officiated.
