Colquitt, Thomas

The funeral was held recently for the late Tom Colquitt of Weaverham, who died on 29th May 2010 aged 87 years. Tom was born on 13th August 1922 in Widnes and had an older sister, Doreen. He was brought up in Widnes and attended Simms Cross School. He married Lilian Wilkinson on 10th June 1948 at The Parish Church of St Mary, Widnes. They settled in Widnes, before moving to Grappenhall in Warrington, then to Winnington and finally to Weaverham in 1955, where they remained. Sadly Tom was widowed in January 1997. After leaving school Tom worked on the railways, a reserved occupation. When war broke out Tom joined the Royal Norfolk Regiment, he was 18. Tom was considered to be an expert in explosives and weapons, and with his knowledge of the railways, he became a soldier in a Top Secret British Resistance Group. After the war Tom joined the Police Force for 10 years, working at Chester and Grappenhall. Later he became Fire and Security Officer at I.C.I. Winnington until his retirement in 1981. Tomís hobbies included listening to music, local history, photography, watching war documentaries and following world events in general. He was a proud member of the Royal British Legion. Tom leaves his daughter Susan; son Roger; grandson Steven; granddaughters Nicola & Sarah and his sister Doreen. The service and committal, held at Altrincham Crematorium, were conducted by Mr Graham Sheen. Family floral tributes were received and donations for the Royal British Legion.
