Cooke, Geoff

The funeral has taken place of Geoff Cooke of Witton Park, who died suddenly at home on 30th July 2010 after a long illness. Geoff was the second son born to the late Arthur & Annie Cooke and lived all his life in Northwich. He had one older brother, John and two younger sisters Mary & Kath. He attended Victoria Road Primary and Rudheath Secondary Modern schools. On leaving school he served his apprenticeship as a fitter at Crewe Locomotive Works where he remained for 12 years, until moving to ICI Wallerscote in 1974. He later moved to the Winnofil Plant at Lostock Works, briefly working at the Chlorine Plant and also the Alloprene Plant before returning to the Winnofil Plant as a Planner then latterly as Supervisor by the time he retired in December 2008. Geoff married Linda in 1971 at Witton Church settling at first in Slade Street then later to Rudheath where he remained for 28 years bringing up his two sons Jamie & Ross before moving to Witton Park 7 years ago. He had a life long love of steam trains, visiting the train museums in York & Swindon and collected many steam train books. He had a passion for darts, playing for several pubs & clubs in the area including The Elms, Broken Cross, Rudheath Social Club, RAOB Club, Green Dragon and latterly the Roebuck, being captain of several teams. He took pleasure in walking his much loved pet dog Molly and enjoyed family holidays in the north and south of England. He met many people throughout his life and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Geoff leaves his wife Linda, sons Jamie & Ross and Emily, fiancé of Jamie. The service held at St Helen’s Church, Northwich, conducted by Rev Barry Jobber was followed by interment at Northwich Cemetery. Family, friends, ex-colleagues, dart player friends and neighbours were all in attendance. In addition to family floral tributes, donations for The Christie Hospital were received.
