Funeral report for the late Joan Barbara Yarwood, formerly Vale & Ovenden The funeral was held on 25th August for the late Joan Barbara Yarwood of Weaverham who died on 13th August, 2010 aged 89 years. Joan was born in Dibden, Hampshire on 6th April 1923, she was the middle child of Florence and Sydney Roberts, and had three brothers and two sisters. She was brought up in Bigglesway, Bedford. Joan passed all her exams to attend Grammar School, but unfortunately her family could not afford the fees. Joan married her late husband John Yarwood in 1971, at Weaverham Methodist Church and they remained in Weaverham, sadly he died in 1987. During the war Joan worked as a bus conductress; one day her friend asked her to swap shifts, which she did, but the bus she should have worked on was bombed and everyone on it was killed. Joan was also a WREN and was stationed on ships in London Docks. Later Joan worked at Top Rank Motorway Service as an assistant cook, at Chicken Farm Fayre, as a cleaner at Mid-Cheshire College and did catering with a friend for the W.I. Joan enjoyed knitting and made garments for all the family, especially for her grandchildren. She liked to watch T.V. and was an avid watcher of “Jack Frost” and Morse. Joan loved to spend time with her family, and especially enjoyed visits from her great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Barbara is survived by sons Colin, Michael, Melcolm & Philip and daughters Barbara & Susan, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great great grandchildren. The service was held at St Mary’s Parish Church, Weaverham followed by committal at Walton Lea Crematorium, conducted by Revd Andrew Brown. As well as family floral tributes, donations were received for Blue Cross Animal Welfare. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Lostock Green, Northwich.
