The funeral was held recently for the late Hilda Hughes, aged 96 years, of Wincham, who died on 26th August 2010, at Leighton Hospital. Hilda was born in Manchester and came to live in Marston at an early age, as her father George Cowley had been killed in the First World War, she had three sisters and two stepbrothers. Hilda married her husband Harold at Anderton Methodist Church and they celebrated their Golden Wedding, sadly Harold passed away in 1987. For over 53 years Hilda lived at London Road in Leftwich, before moving to Wincham in 1992. Hilda worked at the “Penny Bazaar” in Northwich, as a girl of 14, during the war she worked at the canteen at I.C.I. and for many years she was a dinner lady at Sir John Deane’s Grammar School. She was a Witton Albion supporter and loved watching all kinds of sport, Hilda and Harold enjoyed many holidays in Wales. Over the past 10 years Hilda was confined to a wheelchair and was cared for by her granddaughter Tracey. Hilda leaves her daughter Dorothy, son-in-law Neville and her devoted granddaughter Tracey Jane. The funeral service was held at Town Methodist Church, Northwich, conducted by Revd Hilary Howarth and was followed by committal at Altrincham Crematorium.
