The funeral was held recently (15th December 2010) for the late Arthur Whitby of Wincham who died on 1st December 2010, aged 93 years. Arthur was born in Lostock Green; he was one of seven children born to Arthur & Alice Whitby, having three brothers; Ron, Sid and Derek and three sisters; Sybil, Brenda and Dilys. He grew up in Rudheath and attended the local school. Arthur married Nancy on 30th August 1936 at Marston Church, they were married for 74 years. After their marriage Arthur and Nancy settled in Marston, before moving to Wincham. During the war Arthur completed six years in the Royal Artillery. Arthur was a Stonemason, having his own business, where he worked for approximately 45 years. He enjoyed dancing, bowling and gardening. Arthur leaves his wife Nancy, daughter Delys, son Alan, son-in-law Keith, daughter-in law Margaret, grandchildren Craig, Debbie, Sharon & Darren and great grandchildren Katie, Lucy & Will. The service was held at Lostock Gralam Parish Church, followed by interment in the churchyard. Revd Barbara Sharp conducted the service.
