The funeral was held recently (9th June) for Andrew “George” Pickston of Weaverham who died on 29th May 2011, aged 86 years. Andrew, or George as he was known, was born on 17th January 1925 in France, to parents Robert & Marie Pickston and had an older sister. He grew up in the Wirral where he was educated. George married Vera Groves in 1946 in Scotland. They settled in London before moving to Newcastle upon Tyne, then to Weaverham. During the war George was in the Air Force. He later worked at I.C.I. Winnington before becoming a self employed T.V. engineer (Fix-a-Set) in Barnton and later in Castle. George enjoyed photography and liked driving. He is survived by his wife Vera, daughter Carol, son-in-law Oliver, grandsons Darren & Christopher and great grandchildren Kiya, Jasmine & Thomas. The service and committal at Altrincham Crematorium were conducted by Mr Graham Sheen. In addition to family floral tributes, donations were received for Cancer Research UK.
