The funeral was held recently (20th June) for the late Ian Glass of Barnton who died on 11th June 2011, aged 56 years. Ian was born at Warrington General Hospital in 1954, the youngest child of Richard and Dorothy Glass. He lived in Great Budworth with his parents and sisters Jean, Linda and Val. He attended Great Budworth Primary School, Barnton High School until it closed then on to Hartford High School. Ian left school aged 15 and got an apprenticeship at I.C.I. in joinery, he went on to work at Durafencing. From 1978 to 1988 he worked for British Waterways, then at Manweb for 20 years until he retired in August last year. Ian married Carole in 1980; they lived in Winnington until 2001 before moving to Barnton. They had two sons Richard and Daniel, who are now 26 and 24. Ian was always a fanatical Manchester United supporter, which he retained for the rest of his life. He was also a very keen fisherman. He had a passion and skill for golf and was a member of The Wheatsheaf Golf Society. Ian had a love of sport including Test Match cricket and he played snooker. Following his retirement last year Ian took on an allotment. He is survived by his wife Carole, sons Rick and Dan and sisters Jean and Linda. The service and committal were held at Walton Lea Crematorium, conducted by Revd Paul Newman. As well as family floral tributes, donations were received for the Heart Attack Centre at the University Hospital of North Staffs.
