The funeral was held recently (11th July) for the late Joyce Adelaide Mastin of Knutsford who died on 29th June 2011, aged 88 years. Joyce was born on 3rd September 1922 to Charles and Emily Mastin, she was the oldest child, having a younger brother Rod, who pre-deceased her. Joyce was born and brought up in Gravesend, Kent, where she attended Gravesend Grammar School for Girls. In 1940 Joyce moved to Chester, then Guilden Sutton in 1954, to Ollerton in 1969 and then to Knutsford. Joyce served in the A. T. S. from 1942 – 1946. She became Head Teacher at Bredbury Girls’ School in 1963, moving to Knutsford Girls’ School as Head Teacher in 1966, then as Deputy Head at Knutsford County High School in 1973 until her retirement in 1980. Joyce was County Commissioner of the Girl Guides, a past president of the Soroptimists, and a member of the Trefoil Guild. She retained her love of Kent County Cricket throughout her life. Joyce is survived by her nephew Michael and his wife Ada; great niece Amanda who all live in Canada; also cousins Ann & Tom, Alan and other cousins. The service was held at Knutsford Parish Church, conducted by Rev Nigel Atkinson and was followed by committal at Altrincham Crematorium.
