Douglas, Charles Rodney

The funeral was held recently (5th September) for the late Charles Rodney Douglas of Knutsford, who died on 21st August 2011, aged 88 years. Charles was born in Little Rhenny, Greeba, Isle of Man to parents Frederick and Florence Douglas. He attended Woodhouse Grove School in Bradford, he also lived in the Shetlands, Banff, Dumfries and Howden. On 28th October 1964, Charles was married to Avril Mary Gleave at St Luke’s Methodist Church, Hoylake. They lived in Manchester, before moving to Knutsford, where they remained. Charles was an apprentice engineer during the war and later worked as a draughtsman at Metro-Vicks, then at A.E.I. and English Electric. He enjoyed cricket and ornithology. Charles was the bookings secretary for Knutsford Ornithological Society. Charles is survived by his wife Avril. The funeral service was held at Crosby Methodist Church, Isle of Man and was followed by interment in the family grave at Douglas Cemetery, Isle of Man.
