The funeral was held recently (5th January) for the late Marjorie Williams of Knutsford who died on 18th December 2011, aged 81 years. Marjorie was born on 9th July 1930, in Knutsford, where she lived all her life. She married her beloved Bill on 10th September 1955, at the age of 25 and they had four children David, Richard, Colin and Carol. Sadly Bill died in 2002. Marjorie worked in Hulse’s Shoe Shop, Knutsford as a qualified shoe fitter, later she fitted shoes in the shoe department at Affleck and Brown, Manchester. She was a dinner lady at Egerton School; worked as a freelance silver service waitress; then she worked in the executive dining hall for Barclays Directors at Radbrook Hall before her retirement. Marjorie’s first love was singing and she was involved with The Knutsford Operatic Society, The Knutsford Singers and The Good News Singers, led by Barri Dodgson. Marjorie was a keen follower of football with the local teams her sons David and Richard played for, both vocally and with half time oranges, also with Bill who was a volunteer helper at Egerton Boys’ Club. Marjorie also followed Manchester United, often going to matches with the family. She loved to travel; visiting and making friends on different continents. She had a passion for cookery and entertaining, was a keen theatre goer and an active member of Cross Town W.I. Marjorie is survived by her children David, Richard, Colin, who predeceased her, and Carol, her in-laws Margot, Sharon and Paul, nine grandchildren Robert, Jack, Laura, Stephen, Michael, Nathan, Jack, Matthew and William, she was “second mum” to Brenda and leaves her good friends Pat, Sheila and Margaret, also many more friends and acquaintances. The service was held at St Cross Church conducted by Rev Jayne Shepherd, prior to interment at Knutsford Cemetery. Family floral tributes were received and donations for the British Heart Foundation.
