The funeral was held recently (17th February) for Jean Harrop of Northwich who died on 8th February 2012, aged 90 years. Jean was born in Rathfriland, County Down, Northern Ireland on 17th December 1921 to parents Emily and Samuel Wilson. She was the second eldest, having eight sisters and three brothers and was brought up in Rathfriland. She met James Dutton Harrop when he was stationed in Rathfriland, near Belfast and came over to England in 1945. They were married at St Helenís Parish Church, Northwich on 12th June 1946, living at Crown Street, then John Street before finally settling in Agecroft Road. Sadly Jean was widowed in August 1995. Jean worked in the NAAFI when the American Servicemen came over, later at Broadhurstís Bakery making cakes and biscuits. From the early 1960ís until retirement, Jean cleaned the private quarters at the Broken Cross Pub until her seventies. She was an avid gardener and liked reading and crosswords until starting with dementia in 2006. Jean leaves her daughter Jenny and son Jimmy, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers, nieces and nephews. The service was held at St Helenís Parish Church, Northwich followed by interment at Northwich Cemetery, conducted by Revd Tony Long.
