Singleton, William (Bill)

The funeral has taken place of William Singleton, of Weaverham who died, peacefully in hospital on 10th February 2012, aged 91 years. Also known as Bill, he was born in Hartford, along with two brothers and three sisters, of whom May and Ellen survive. Bill was the widower to the late Joyce Singleton, who died on 10th August 2008. They married on 20th October 1945 when he returned from serving in the Second World War. Bill leaves his daughter Hazel and son-in-law Graham, son Brian and daughter-in-law Coyla; four grandchildren, Richard, David, Simon and Janine and six great grandchildren. He worked at Winnington I.C.I. until his retirement. Although Bill and Joyce settled initially in Weaverham, they moved to Anderton and Winnington before returning to Weaverham. Bill enjoyed gardening, bird spotting, football and fishing, but mostly he loved spending time with his family. The service was held at St Mary’s Church, Weaverham followed by interment at Gorstage Cemetery, officiated by Rev Geoff Buchan. Donations for Macmillan Support Services were gratefully received.
