Bradford, Tom

The funeral has taken place of Thomas Edward Bradford (Tom) who died on 18th February 2012, aged 72 years, in Leighton Hospital. He was born in Oreton in Shropshire in 1939 to the late Mary and Evan Bradford; he had two sisters and four brothers, the sixth of seven children. His childhood was spent in Swynnerton, Staffordshire. He and all his siblings attended Alleyene’s Grammar School in Stone. Tom then went to Rodbaston Farm Institute followed by Harper Adams Agricultural College. In September 1963, Tom married Nerys in Hereford and they had three children, Christopher, Catherine and Timothy and two granddaughters, Rebecca and Lauren; they celebrated their 48th Wedding Anniversary in 2011. They have resided in Lower Peover since 1975. Tom had a very varied career in Agriculture and Horticulture and one of his favourite times was when he worked for the Department of Agriculture in Western Australia as a Stock Inspector and realised his dreams by renting an 800 acre farm in a beautiful spot 12 miles from Bridgetown, those days never left him and he enthralled his children and grandchildren with tales of those times. Not long before Tom’s death he was still working on a community project at Speke as well as being caretaker of Allostock Village Hall. Throughout his life he had a great love of sport. He was a season ticket holder at Stoke City, but his true passion was cricket. He played for Over Peover Cricket Club until the age of 55. His involvement with the club spanned more than three decades in a range of roles including playing for 1st XI, 2nd team captain, vice chairman, chairman of the selection committee and league representative. He was very proud and extremely touched to be recently appointed as an Honorary Vice President. Tom was always happy and had a wonderful ability to make people laugh. He touched many lives, always with a beaming smile and a twinkle in his eye. He will be sorely missed. The service was held at St Oswald’s Church, followed by interment in the Churchyard. The Revd Dr Jane Lloyd conducted the service. There were family flowers and donations to Prostate Cancer Charity and the W.R.V.S. Arrangements by Dodgson’s Funeral Service, Knutsford.
