The funeral was held recently (2nd March) for Derek Norrey of Winnington, who died on 21st February 2012, aged 73 years. Derek was born in Rudheath to parents Lily and William Norrey and had an older brother David. He grew up in Rudheath, then Marston and attended Rudheath Secondary Modern School for Boys. Derek lived in Leftwich for a short time, before settling in Winnington 45 years ago. He completed his National Service with the Royal Signals. Derek married in 1960 and had two children Jackie and Neil, then divorced in 2002. Sadly Neil passed away in 1995. For the last eight years, Derek was very happy with his partner Maureen Fitton. After leaving school Derek worked at Crewe Railway Works, he then went to Fodenís at Crewe before working at I.C.I. Winnington. He then worked as a Childcare Assistant at Greenbank School, the only job he loved, until he retired six years ago. Derek enjoyed walking, watching wildlife; especially birds, going on holidays and was a member of Vicars Cross Golf Club. Derek is survived by his daughter Jackie, grandchildren Simon and Sarah, partner Maureen and his brother David. The service and committal were held at Altrincham Crematorium conducted by Revd Brian Peace. Family flowers and donations for R S P B and R S P C A were received.
