Skinner, Barbara

The funeral has taken place (23rd March) of Barbara Patricia Skinner of Knutsford, who died very peacefully on 19th March 2012, aged 91. Barbara was born in 1921 in Kneeton, Nottinghamshire to Edwin & Edith Jennings. She was the youngest of six children, having two brothers and three sisters. She lived in Nottinghamshire throughout her youth, the family moving first to East Bridgford then Radcliffe-on-Trent where she married John Skinner in 1952, having met him whilst working away in Cornwall. They began married life in Wickersley near Rotherham, Johnís home village. In 1958 they moved to Knutsford, where they lived for the rest of their lives. Barbara was widowed in 1999. During the war Barbara served in the Land Army on farms in Nottinghamshire. After the war she returned to secretarial and administrative work for Nottingham County Council in the Mass Radiography Unit. She also ran the Ramblerís Cafť at Longshaw House in Derbyshire. After raising her family, Barbara returned to work in the 1960s for NNC in the Technical Manuals Section at Radbroke Hall, Risley and latterly at Booths Hall. Barbaraís many interests included rambling with her family and dogs, walking the coast of Britain, wild flowers and gardening. She was a natural homemaker with a great flair for cookery, needlework and knitting. For many years she worked for Oxfam in Knutsford, she was a member of Cross Town W.I., High Legh Mothersí Union and the local Scottish Dance Society. Barbara is survived by her three daughters Hilary, Liz & Vicky, grandson Joel and her sister Mollie. The service at St Johnís Parish Church, Knutsford was conducted by Canon Michael Walters, prior to committal at Altrincham Crematorium. Floral tributes were received and donations for Age UK.
