The funeral was held recently (8th May) for Ethel Stiles of Wincham, who died on 28th April 2012, aged 96 years. Ethel was born in Wincham on 18th December 1915 to parents Hugh and Mary-Ellen Riley. Their four children were Horace, Ethel, Nell and Norman. Ethel was brought up in Wincham and Pickmere and attended school in Marston. She married Harry Stiles on 15th June 1940 at Great Budworth Parish Church and they settled in Linnards Lane, Wincham. Later they moved to Lostock Gralam then returned to Wincham. Sadly Ethel was widowed in 1965. During the war Ethel worked at Byley Airfield on Wellington Bomber hydraulics. She was a shop assistant in the newsagents at Lostock Gralam; sub post-mistress at Wincham Post Office and was employed in the printing department at Associated Octel. Ethel was a Manchester United supporter, she enjoyed Crown Green Bowls and socialising in The Red Lion at Pickmere. She was a member of Pickmere W.I. also Wincham and Pickmere Luncheon Club. Ethel is survived by her sons David and John and her brother Norman. The service was held at Lostock Parish Church followed by committal at Altrincham Crematorium, conducted by Mr Graham Sheen. Family flowers were received and donations for the British Heart Foundation. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Lostock Green, Northwich.
