The funeral was held recently for Herbert Ridgway of Rudheath, who died on 9th August 2012, aged 89 years. Herbert was born at Marple Bridge on 22nd October 1922 to Charles and Annie Ridgway, he had three brothers Cyril, Derek & Dennis and two sisters Kathleen & Rita. He grew up in Northwich and attended St Wilfrid’s R. C. School. In 1947, he married Mary Hayes at the Registry Office and they settled in Farm Road Rudheath, moving to Wright Avenue then later to East Avenue; sadly he was widowed in 2000. Herbert was employed as a farm labourer before working on the railways at Northwich Shed, then Allerton Shed. He enjoyed horse racing and boxing. Herbert is survived by his son Barry, daughter Helen, son-in-law David, daughters-in-law Sandra & Shirley, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his sister Kathleen. The service at St Wilfrid’s RC Church, Northwich was celebrated by Rev Father Jonathan Mitchell, prior to Interment at Rudheath Cemetery. Family floral tributes were received and donations for Crohn’s Department at Royal Liverpool Hospital. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Lostock Green, Northwich.
