The funeral was held recently for Catherine Ethel Dewsbury of Moulton, who died on 2nd October 2012, aged 91 years. Catherine, also known as Ethel, was born in Northwich on 10th April 1921, to Annie and Joseph Pye; the second eldest of five children, having three younger sisters Helen, Winnie and Nancy and an older brother William. Catherine attended St Wilfrid’s RC School, Northwich; after leaving school she worked in a bakery until she was 20, then worked in the labs at I.C.I. In January 1945, Catherine married Frank Dewsbury at St Wilfrid’s RC Church, Northwich, two years later their only child Michael was born. Catherine was a wonderful Mother and devoted wife to Frank until he passed away in 1979. In her younger days Catherine loved dancing and playing bingo at St Wilfrid’s RC Social Club, she also loved family holidays to Blackpool and caravan holidays in Wales. Her hobbies included knitting, baking and watching television, particularly football. She was a great cat lover, always having cats throughout her life, some of them living into their twenties. Catherine’s main interest in life revolved around her family. She was a devoted Mother-in-Law to the late Helena and was devastated, as were the rest of the family, when Helena sadly passed away in 2009. Catherine was a fantastic Nan to her three grandchildren Peter, Laura and Karen. They all adored her and enjoyed spending time with her. She also had three great grandchildren Alfie, Harry and Olive, whom she loved dearly; her face would light up when they came to visit. Catherine leaves her son Michael, grandchildren Peter, Laura & Karen, great grandchildren Alfie, Harry & Olive. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St Wilfrid’s RC Church, Northwich followed by interment at Northwich Cemetery. Father Jonathan Mitchell was the celebrant. Family flowers were received and donations for St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Lostock Green, Northwich.
