McCabe, Michael (Mick)

The funeral was held recently for the late Michael John McCabe (Mick) of Castle who died on 1st January 2013, aged 62 years. Mick, was born in 1950 to Irene and John McCabe and had two sisters Val & Pam and a brother Paul. He was born in Berlin due to his father serving in the army and travelled with his family to various places including Malaysia and East Africa. He finally found himself settling in Northwich at the age of 15 and started his apprenticeship as a boilermaker with I.C.I., staying with I.C.I. until his early retirement, aged 50. Mick loved all sports and enjoyed playing football and boxing in his younger years. He was a life-long Manchester United fan and toured with fellow fans, supporting the team all across the country. He even went to some of their European matches including places such as Amsterdam. He was a member of Castle Private and attended every Sunday night with his wife Carol, his brother Paul and other close friends. He enjoyed a pint of lager and a few Irish Whiskeys. He was soon known throughout the club as an entertainer and was loved by all. Mick and Carol loved their holidays abroad and due to his bubbly and outgoing personality made friends wherever they went. He was great at telling jokes and stories and will be remembered by all his friends and family as the true legend that he was. Mick leaves his wife Carol, parents Irene and John, sister Val & Pam, brother Paul, brothers-in-law Steve & Leigh, stepchildren Emma & David and stepson-in-law Pete. The service was held at St Wilfrid’s Parish Church, Davenham conducted by Rev Martyn Cripps, followed by committal at Walton Lea Crematorium. Family floral tributes were received and donations for St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice.
