The funeral was held on 13th March 2013, for the late Peggy Henry of Lower Peover who died on 1st March 2013 aged 88 years. She was born in Southport, Lancashire on 9th March 1924, the only child of Samuel & Molly Holt. Peggy grew up and was educated in Southport, first attending Clive School, Birkdale before continuing her education at Notre Dame College, where she obtained both her school certificate and higher school certificate. World War II interrupted her going to University and the country had a need for women to join the war effort in some capacity, Peggy joined the Women’s Land Army. At the end of the war she returned to civilian life. She attended secretarial college, obtaining qualifications to join the world of business, commencing with a position at a firm of leading estate agents in Southport, followed by an office administrator’s position at Broadbent’s Department store in Southport. She then worked for the Electricity Board, later to become MANWEB, as secretary to the general manager. In September 1951, Peggy met and married Paul Henry who has served in the RAF from 1943 to 1948. They moved to Cheshire when Paul became a management trainee with a Liverpool company and bought a plot of land at Lower Peover; they had a house built and in March 1956 they were able to move in. Peggy obtained a position with a market research company which she held for 30 years, the last 20 of which she was the Northern Area Manager. She was a member of two Women’s Institutes; Lower Peover and later Crossstown W.I. her membership gave her a great deal of pleasure. Her other interests were Bridge and Yoga, she also loved animals, being especially fond of gorillas. She will be greatly missed by her husband Paul. The service at Lower Peover Parish Church, conducted by Rev Dr Jane Lloyd was followed by interment in the Churchyard. A family floral tribute was received and donations for St Oswald’s Church, P.D.
