NORTHWICH GUARDIAN Funeral report for the late Doris Jones (née Gandy) The funeral was held on 22nd October for the late Doris Jones, who died 6th October 2014 aged 100 years. She was born in Manor Street, Greenbank to the late Fanny and Samuel Gandy, sister to Betty and the late Jack Gandy. Attended Park Street Infants School, Castle Girls School and Sir John Deane’s Grammar School. She went to Hartford Methodist Church Sunday School at five years of age, later becoming a member of the church choir. On leaving school she worked at the GPO Northwich as a telephone operator, where she met her husband Stanley, they were married at London Road Methodist Chapel and attended there for around twenty years. They had two children, Peter who sadly died in 1997 aged 62 years and Carol. They moved from Leftwich to Castle and she rejoined Hartford Methodist Choir. Doris worked for ICI for eighteen years in the Printing Room. She was a member of the Operatic Society and took several leading roles, her favourite being “Iolanthe”. She also became a member of the Northwich & District Festival Choir and the Hartford W.I Choir, a member of Knutsford & Vale Royal Ramblers, Mid-Cheshire Footpath Society and the Northwich Ladies Guild. Doris was devoted to her family and will be sadly missed by her daughter, son-in-law, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren whom she has left with many treasured memories. The service was held at Hartford Methodist Church followed by committal. Floral tributes were received and donations for Leighton Hospital Ward 14 and Gleavewood Comforts Fund.
