The funeral has taken place of Marjorie Bate of Rudheath, who died on 6th July 2005. Marjorie was born in Miles Platting, Manchester, second youngest of seven children of George and Hannah Drinkwater. She grew up in Manchester and after leaving school she attended Manchester School of Art. She married her dearly beloved husband, Ken, at St Martin's Church, Wythenshawe in 1952, and they subsequently settled in Kenís hometown of Northwich, where their eight children were born. Marjorie s husband and her children were the centre of her existence, and she dedicated her life to them with a passion and a verve that epitomised her very being. The other focus in Marjorie's life was her painting, and she was a highly acclaimed artist, having exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Manchester Academy of Art and many other prestigious exhibitions. She won numerous awards for her paintings, and continued to paint in her own inimitable style throughout her life. Marjorie loved her garden, especially her flowers, and was also an avid reader. She filled every minute of every day, and had many other wide and varied interests including shopping, supporting Manchester United, cooking and decorating, all of which she pursued with boundless energy and enthusiasm. Marjorie touched the lives of everyone she knew with her kindness, compassion, generosity and beauty, and is greatly missed by her devoted husband Ken, her children and grandchildren and all family members. The service at St Helenís Parish Church, Witton was conducted by Rev Paul Dawson, prior to interment at Dane Valley Cemetery. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Greenacre Funeral Home, Northwich.
