The funeral was held on 10th March for the late Muriel Houghton of Knutsford who died on 28th February 2005 aged 80 years. Muriel was born on 9th March 1924 in Silverdale, Lancashire to the late Reg and Mary Ann Taylor. The family moved to Chorley, Lancaster and finally Morecambe where she was brought up with her siblings, Ronnie, David and Joyce. She married Eric Houghton when she was 19 at Knutsford Parish Church and they settled in Knutsford. They had two children Kathleen and Stephen who both predeceased her. Apart from being a housewife Muriel worked in munitions during the war and as an assistant cook at Norbury Booths school, which she enjoyed greatly as she loved children. Despite struggles with mobility Muriel has great fortitude and determination to remain independent, which she achieved to the end. Muriel always had a laugh in her and remained in good spirits as she passed away suddenly but peacefully on 28th February with her granddaughters at her side. Muriel is survived by her two granddaughters and her son in law. The service at Knutsford Parish Church was conducted by Dr Thain Flowers prior to committal at Altrincham Crematorium. In addition to family floral tributes, donations were received for Cancer Research UK. Arrangements by Dodgson’s Funeral Service, Knutsford.
