The funeral was held recently for Philip Ikin of Hartford who died on 5th March 2005 aged 86 years. Philip was born to the late William & Bessie Ikin of Castle in 1919, the youngest of three brothers. From the outbreak of the second world war, he served as an armourer attached to the Parachute Regiment. At the end of the war, having served for 7 years, he left the army to marry Elsie Elson. They had two children, John and Kathleen. Philip worked as a painter and decorator at Weaverhall before starting his own business. Eventually John joined his father in the business; Philip Ikin & Son and they worked together until Philip’s retirement. Philip and Elsie lived on Castle for 25 years before moving to Hartford. Philip was widowed in 1986, he remained in Hartford enjoying family life with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren until he moved to Daneside Court due to ill health. The service at United Reformed Church, Castle was conducted by Rev Chris Tolley prior to committal at Altrincham Crematorium.
