The funeral was held on 1st July for the late Arthur Whitney of Knutsford who died on 23rd June 2005 aged 80 years. Arthur was born in Whitegate to the late Arthur and Alice Whitney; he was the younger of two boys, having a brother Eric. He grew up in Whitegate where he attended the local primary school before going to Verdin Grammar School at Winsford. He married Cynthia Davies on 30th April 1960 at Knutsford Methodist Church and they settled in Tabley Grove, Knutsford where they remained, during their 45 years of marriage. Arthur will be remembered cycling all over Knutsford until his health prevented him. During the war Arthur served in the RAF from 1943 – 1947. As a warrant officer and wireless operator, mainly flying liberators, based in Foggia, Italy and many flights from Lydda in Palestine. Later Arthur worked in the accountancy department at I.C.I. Northwich for 35 years until his retirement in 1982. In his younger days Arthur enjoyed Whist Drives and meeting people, he loved his garden but above all his family were very important to him. He leaves his wife Cynthia, sons Jeffrey and David, daughters-in-law Penny and Teresa, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his brother Eric and sister-in-law Doris. Private interment was held at Whitegate Churchyard and was followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at Knutsford Methodist Church, conducted by Rev Paul Wilson.
