Gunn, Eric Gordon
The funeral has taken place of Eric Gordon Gunn who died on 1st September 2005 aged 80 years. Eric was born in Sale but moved to Lostock and then Rudheath where he attended Victoria Road Primary School and the then, newly-built, Rudheath Secondary School. On leaving school he worked for Bradleys the tailors in Northwich until he joined the Royal Navy in 1942. After completing his basic training at H.M.S. Glendower, he served as a dems gunner on merchant ships on the North Atlantic convoys; bringing vital supplies from America and Canada to the U.K. When the war ended he served on H.M.S. St Kitts, travelling to Malta and the Mediterranean and then to Scandinavia to take part in the Victory Parade in Norway. He was demobbed in 1946 and started at I.C.I. where he worked as a rigger until his retirement in 1989. During his retirement Eric enjoyed taking many holidays, D.I.Y. projects and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Sheila, daughters Denise and partner Denis, Linda and husband Mike and grandchildren Neil, Carla and Andrew. Family, relatives and friends attended the service at St Thomas’ Church, Rudheath, prior to committal at Altrincham Crematorium, officiated by Rev Geoffrey Greenhough. Donations were received for St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral service, Greenacre Funeral Home, Northwich.
