The funeral was held recently for the late Charles Simmons of Wincham who died on 30th October 2005 aged 85 years. Charles was born on 5th January 1920 to the late Wallace and Maud Simmons. He was the middle child of three sons and was born in Old Halls Court, Northwich. He was brought up in Northwich where he attended Timber Lane School and Witton Boysí School. On March 7th 1942 he married Nellie Litler at St Helenís Parish Church and they settled in Wincham. During the war Charles was a member of the Home Guard and was employed as a template maker at Joseph Parks for 49 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a supporter of Witton Albion Football Club, he enjoyed his garden and liked spending holidays abroad, especially in Gran Canaria. He leaves his loving wife Nellie, daughter Joan, son Stephen, son-in-law John, daughter-in-law Lynn and grandchildren Carol, David, Carly and Naomi, also his brother Cyril and sister-in-law Jean. The service and committal were held at Altrincham Crematorium, conducted by Rev Geoffrey Greenhough. In addition to family floral tributes, donations were received for the Ambulance Service.
