Ludlow, Irene Annie (Rene)
The funeral was held at Knutsford Parish Church on 29th December for the late Irene Annie Ludlow of Knutsford who died on 18th December 2005 aged 94 years. Rene, as she was known, was born in Knutsford, into the Paddock family, in November 1911; she was christened, confirmed and married at Knutsford Parish Church. She attended Yorston Lodge School, and although when she married George they lived in Sale for a time, she always thought of Knutsford as her home. Rene and George had no children of their own, but was fondly known to her nephews and their families as “Auntie Paddy” after her maiden name. Rene and George spent all their spare time with each other travelling and making new friends, as members of both a caravan and motorcycle club. She was a member of Mereheath Tennis Club and later of Mereheath Bowling Club. At the beginning of the Second World War, she volunteered for war work, then for many years she was the Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths for Knutsford. She was a member of Knutsford Ornithological Society and Ollerton then Toft Women’s Institute. When George died 35 years ago Rene joined St John’s Church Choir and regularly attended services until she was in her early nineties. As her health deteriorated Rene spent her latter years at Ash Court, then Abbeyfield and finally Sharston House Nursing Home. Rene is survived by her two nephews and their families. Family flowers were received and donations for Knutsford Parish Church Organ Fund. The service at Knutsford Parish church was conducted by Dr Thain Flowers and was followed by committal at Altrincham Crematorium. Arrangements by Dodgson’s Funeral Service.
