Mayer, Simon Andrew
The funeral was held on Saturday 25th February of Simon Andrew Mayer of Toft Hall Farm with a short service of prayer in Toft Church prior to the interment in a new family grave in the churchyard and then a Service of Thanksgiving in Knutsford Parish Church with the church filled to capacity with friends joining in support of the family. Simon was born on 3rd June 1952 the second son of Philip Bradbury Mayer and Barbara Janet Mayer of Brook Heyes Farm, Dunham Massey, Altrincham. He had a brother Christopher and three sisters Sally, Elizabeth and Alison and they enjoyed a happy childhood. The family moved to Toft Hall Farm, Toft, Knutsford, Cheshire in 1964. Simon was educated at schools for the deaf in Cheadle and Old Trafford, Manchester before passing the entrance exam for The Mary Hare Grammar School for the Deaf, Newbury, Berkshire. Simon worked for his parents at Toft Hall Farm prior to becoming a partner in the family firm of P.B. Mayer after two courses at Reaseheath Agricultural College.- in Agriculture and Advanced dairy herd management. July 31st 1980 married Sharon Roth who had been working on the farm for a year prior to completing a degree in Agriculture. 4 children Jonathan, Matthew, Daniel and Eva Took on tenancy of farm in 1989 following father's retirement where introduction of faxes, e-mail and mobile phones facilitated true independence for Simon in a hearing world both farmwise and socially. Hobbies – enthusiastic member of the “Mid-life crisis” badminton club, long term follower of Port Vale and Manchester United FC, committed member of St John's Parish Church, Knutsford and travelling on holiday with family A very happy and contented man who always had a smile and a joke for everyone. He will be hugely missed by many family and friends. The service was conducted by the vicar Rev Nigel Atkinson and assisted by Rev Paul Wilson of Knutsford Methodist Church, who took the prayers. As well as floral tributes donations were received for Farm Africa, Toft Church, Cancer Research, and Wycliffe Bible Translators.
