Oakes, James Frederick
The service was held on 4th April for the late James Oakes of Lostock Green who died on 25th March 2006 aged 72 years. James was born in Crowton, one of two children, to the late John and Mary Oakes, having a younger sister. He was brought up in Crowton and went to Lach Dennis when he was 17 years old. He met his wife Mary at Lostock Rose Fete, they married in 1960 at Lach Dennis Church. They settled at the farm where they remained until moving to Lostock Green in 1993. James was former President of Middlewich Young Farmers and a member of the National Farmers Union, also treasurer of Stretton Discussion Group. He was a longtime member of Lach Dennis Church. Always involved in village life, James was a sociable person and very much a family man. He loved gardening and writing; having written a book on the history of Crowton. He was also a man of many sayings. James leaves his wife Mary, sons Wilfred and John, daughters-in-law Linda and Sally and grandchildren Hayley, Charles, Lisa and Annabell. The service was held at Lostock Parish Church followed by interment at All Saints Church, Lach Dennis. Many family members, relatives and friends attended the service, filling the church to capacity. In addition to family floral tributes, many generous donations were received for Wythenshawe Hospital and Lostock Church. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Northwich.
