Birtwisle, Harold Ian
The funeral was held on 10th May for the late Harold Ian Birtwisle of Allostock who died on 1st May 2006 aged 65 years. Ian was born on Easter Saturday 1941. At the age of five, Ian attended Victoria Road School, Northwich, whilst he was there a Northwich and District Schools Football League was started and Ian was appointed the first captain of Victoria Road “A” team. Ian went on to Sir John Deane’s Grammar School at the age of 11, where he played in most of the school teams at rugby, cricket and athletics. When he was 15 he was selected to represent Cheshire at the All England Schools athletics meeting in Plymouth where he won a bronze National Standards medal and was presented with his school’s athletic colours on his return to Sir John Deane’s. Ian left school at 16 to attend Blackpool Technical College where he completed a two year course in food technology and was awarded the Institute of Meat Trades Diploma. He joined his father Harold and Uncle Jack in the family business, working after their retirement, until ill health forced him to finish in 2005, leaving his son Nick to continue. Ian continued to play league tennis and badminton in many teams since leaving school. He took an active role in the local and county Butcher’s Associations and was honoured to be president of Northwich from 1975 – 1977. Ian met his wife Pam in 1958 and they married in 1965, daughter Deborah was born in 1966 and son Nicholas in 1969. Ian and Pam celebrated their Ruby Wedding Anniversary last year. Ian leaves his wife Pam, children Deborah and Nicholas and grandchildren Leanne and Richard. The service at Lostock Green Methodist Church was conducted by Rev Russell Rigby, prior to interment at Lach Dennis Churchyard. In addition to family floral tributes, donations were received for East Cheshire Hospice and Cancer Research UK. Arrangements by George Bell Funeral Service, Northwich.
