The funeral was held on 24th April for the late Betty Groves of Leftwich who died on 13th April 2006 aged 83 years. Betty was born in Lostock Gralam to parents Lucy and William Dimelow; she had two sisters and two brothers. She grew up in Lostock Gralam where she attended school. On 27th March 1944 Betty married Frederick Groves at St Helen’s Parish Church, Northwich. They settled in Boundary Street Lostock before moving to Rudheath for 48 years, then to Leftwich where they remained. During the second world war Betty worked as a burner at Parks’ Steelworks, she also worked at Rubberworks in Wincham and the Munitions Depot in Risley, Warrington before becoming a full-time housewife and mother. Betty enjoyed gardening and especially liked to grow flowers, she liked to go on holiday and also read women’s books. She is survived by her husband Fred, three sons, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The funeral service was held at Lostock Parish Church and was followed by interment in the churchyard, conducted by Rev Barry Jobber. In addition to family floral tributes donations were received for Cancer Research UK.
