The funeral was held on 17th May for the late Edith Cross of Weaverham who died on 7th May 2006 aged 77 years. Edith was born in Rudheath to the late Joseph and Hilda Riley. She had one brother, the late George and three sisters Dorothy, Margaret and the late Alice. They were brought up in Rudheath. Edith married her husband Harold Cross on 23rd November 1950 at Holy Trinity Church, Castle. They settled in Weaverham, then lived in Cuddington before moving back to Weaverham. Edith worked as a shop assistant for the Co-op and Pitts in Hartford. She was a school cook at Darwin Street School, Castle and St Bede’s School, Weaverham. Edith liked cycling, doing jigsaws and puzzles, she enjoyed cooking and reading, also sewing and knitting. She is survived by her husband Harold, daughters Anthea and Rosemary, sons in law David and Terry, son Eric and his partner Julie and grandchildren Mark, Athene, Carole, Kirsty, Nigel, Joanne and Dave. The service was held at St Mary’s Parish Church, Weaverham, conducted by Rev Andrew Brown and was followed by committal at Walton Lea Crematorium. As well as family floral tributes, donations were received for Christie Hospital, Leighton Hospital and Redwalls Nursing Home.
