The funeral has taken place of Sylvia Johnson, of Leftwich, who died on 20th May 2006 aged 59 years. Sylvia was born in Lubeck Germany in 1947 and came to live in Great Budworth 6 months later with her late mother & father, Tamara & Bill Martin. All the family moved to Winnington when Sylvia was about 6 years old. She attended Winnington Park School and went to St Luke’s Church where she later became Rose Queen in 1951. Following her time at Northwich Grammar School for Girls and after working for a number of local businesses including James Lynch Transport she married Bruce whom she had met some years earlier. The marriage took place at St Mary’s Church Great Budworth on 12th August 1967 and Sylvia and Bruce lived in Winnington for 5 years, Wincham for 5 years and finally moved to London Road Leftwich in 1976. Sylvia had a younger brother John, married to Lynne and sister Sue, married to Terry. Much loved sons Philip and Simon were born in 1970 and 1971 and Sylvia had 2 very special grandchildren, Max aged 5 and Molly aged 3. Alison was an exceptional friend as well as being her daughter-in-law. Sylvia had numerous holidays in Bermuda with Bruce and her much loved sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat & Pete. She also visited relatives in Estonia on 2 occasions which was where her mother was born. During the 80’s Sylvia worked at D&A Opticians and also at Danebridge Medical Centre where she made many friends. In 1999 Sylvia joined the family business, with Bruce and Simon, where she was Company Secretary. She was an avid reader, loved gardening, enjoyed travelling and just adored being with her grandchildren. It was following a holiday in April this year, after visiting friends in Florida, that Sylvia developed a deep vein thrombosis, for which she was being treated. Soon afterwards she suffered multiple strokes and died in Leighton Hospital Stroke Unit. The Rev Martyn Cripps officiated at the service together with an old friend of the family Canon John Bowers, who gave the tribute. The service and interment was held at St Wilfrid’s Church, Davenham on Friday 26th May. In addition to family floral tributes, donations were received for The Stroke Association and Cancer Relief.
