Curbishley, William (Bill)

The funeral has taken place for the late William Curbishley of Hartford and formerly of Knutsford, who died on 18th May 2006 aged 64 years. William was born in Knutsford in 1942 to parents Leah and Harold Curbishley, Bill was the youngest of five children. He grew up in Knutsford and attended Knutsford Secondary Modern School, where he became a keen sportsman. Bill played football for Egerton Boysí Club, playing alongside Alan Oakes and Glyn Pardoe and ran the 100 metres for Cheshire. Following school he served as an apprentice electrician at Ilford in Mobberley and then went on to work at Wiggins Teape, but the majority of his career was spent at Murgatroyds in Sandbach, from 1969 until his retirement. In 1968 Bill married Dinah Webb at Hartford Parish Church, their son Adam was born in 1972 and daughter Laura in 1976. Billís grandson Ben, born in 1997, gave him a lot of pleasure. Bill was known for his love of animals, especially his beloved dog Sapphire. He was a keen Manchester City fan and often went to watch them, he also enjoyed crown green bowls and golf. After his retirement he became a member of Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club and spent many happy times there. Bill loved to travel, particularly to Malta and South Africa, all the family enjoyed holidays abroad in addition to their caravan in North Wales. Billís health deteriorated over the last few years and he died suddenly at home after a long illness. He will be sadly missed as a great dad and friend to many, he was a realist and a hardworking, proud, family man. He is survived by his wife Dinah, children Adam and Laura and grandson Ben. The service and committal were held at Walton Lea Crematorium, conducted by Mr Steve Grant. A personal poem, written as a tribute to Bill by his daughter Laura, was read at the service. As well as family floral tributes, donations were received for Christie Hospital.
